First Baptist has a CLOTHES CLOSET which provides clothing items at litte or no cost to those in need. Located in the FBC facilities, this ministry assists Camino de Luz, Horizon City Avalon halfway house, Christian Women's Job Corps, and others in the community on a regular basis. Those in need receive good, usable clothing, hear about God's love, and learn about the many opportunities of the church. For more information about serving, contact Mary Wakefield via email or contact Gary Enge, FBC Community Ministries Coordinator here. The church always welcomes the donation of usable, clean clothing items for men, women, and children.
First Baptist Church is also part of a larger ministry called the
DOWNTOWN CHURCH CONNECTION.

Churches and non-profit organizations which are part of the Downtown Church Connection inform one another of the different needs they meet in the downtown area so that efforts are not duplicated.

They also inform one another of help they need in meeting these needs.
The KELLY MEMORIAL FOOD PANTRY, now a 501(c)3 non-profit independent from Trinity-First United Methodist Church, provides supplemental food to families and individuals whose income does not go far enough to buy all the groceries they need to feed themselves or their families.

Food distribution occurs four time each week and stocking occurs twice each week.
Food distribution: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30am to 4:00pm, and Saturdays 8am to 11am.
Stocking: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00pm until 6:00pm

The food pantry serves approximately 300 people per day, andover time has seen an increase of people in need. This number will continue to increase.

The Food Pantry recently moved to a larger location to accomodate this influx.

They are in need of volunteers in a number of areas:
--Clerical/Computer skills (Excel)
--Unloading shipments
--Sorting food supplies
--Boxing together food supplies for
clients

If you are interested in volunteering, even a few hours per week, stop by the table in the Great Hall on Sundays. You can always contact FBC Coordinator, Gary Enge, at
227-1778 or gengedin@yahoo.com.
